Surge Arrestors, Class A
Robust Protection for High-Energy Overvoltage Events
Insulect’s Class A Surge Arresters are engineered to safeguard electrical infrastructure against high-energy overvoltage transients, such as those caused by direct lightning strikes. Designed for integration at the main distribution level, these arresters are ideal for environments with a high risk of lightning-induced surges.

Made for Demanding Overvoltage Conditions.
Class A surge arresters are engineered for primary protection of high-voltage equipment in overhead distribution and substation networks. Designed to meet IEC 60099-4 standards, these arresters effectively protect assets from lightning strikes, switching surges, and temporary overvoltages. Ideal for critical infrastructure, rural feeders, and exposed overhead lines, Class A units are built for durability and performance in extreme environments.
Engineered for Safety in Fire-Prone Zones.
Our Class A arresters incorporate internal arc protection and spark-free operation, minimising risk to personnel and surrounding infrastructure. This makes them suitable for use in densely populated areas or bushfire-prone zones, where ignition risks must be mitigated. The non-gapped design ensures consistent energy absorption and safe pressure relief in the event of overload.
Reliable High Voltage Protection, Built to Standards.
Encased in lightweight, UV- and weather-resistant polymeric housings, Class A arresters deliver superior hydrophobicity and insulation performance over time. The slimline design makes them easier to install and maintain on existing structures while withstanding the harshest environmental conditions.
Reducing Risk. Enhancing Longevity.
Features & Functionality

Class A surge arresters are independently tested to AS 1307.2-1996 (R2015), ensuring zero spark production—ideal for bushfire-prone or sensitive environments.

Designed for horizontal or vertical applications, and may be mounted on steel structures or pole mounted.

Built to perform under high-stress conditions, our arresters are proven to withstand the overvoltage demands of REFCL (Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiter) networks.

Available from 3 kV to 64 kV, with 5 kA and 10 kA discharge current ratings, our Class A range complies with IEC 60099-4 and IEEE C62.11, ensuring global compatibility and performance across distribution and sub-transmission networks.
