Overview

The MacIntyre Wind Farm in southern Queensland is a major renewable energy development delivered in stages and designed to operate at scale. To support reliable grid connection and long‑term performance, Insulect was engaged to supply key substation infrastructure, including 330 kV disconnectors, current transformers, and 72.5 kV dead tank circuit breakers. From the early stages of the project, it was clear that close collaboration and hands‑on technical support would be essential to meet the site’s specific requirements and ambitious delivery schedule.

Challenge

The project presented a number of technical and operational challenges, particularly around the specialised substation configuration required for the two‑stage wind farm development. The customer needed equipment that would integrate seamlessly with the site’s unique layout while meeting strict performance and compliance requirements. In addition, the complexity of installation and commissioning meant on‑site expertise was critical. Any delays or issues during these phases could have had flow‑on effects to the overall project timeline.

Solution

Insulect worked closely with Acciona to deliver a tailored solution rather than a standard off‑the‑shelf package. Insulect engineers collaborated with the project team to ensure the selected equipment aligned precisely with the substation design and operational needs. To further support successful delivery, Insulect provided strong on‑site technical assistance, including sending specialist technicians to site to support installation and commissioning. Regular communication and progress updates helped maintain alignment and quickly resolve any issues as they arose.

Benefits

By delivering customised solutions and providing responsive, hands‑on support, Insulect helped the client navigate the complexity of the substation works with confidence. On‑site technical expertise reduced installation risk and supported efficient commissioning, while consistent communication ensured expectations were managed throughout the project. This approach allowed the customer to move through critical project phases smoothly and stay on track with delivery milestones.

Results

The MacIntyre Wind Farm substation works were completed successfully, with equipment installed, commissioned, and operating as intended. The project met key deadlines and progressed into operation without major disruption, reinforcing confidence in the electrical infrastructure supporting the wind farm. The positive outcome and strong client feedback highlight Insulect’s ability to deliver tailored, high‑voltage solutions and dedicated support for complex, large‑scale renewable energy projects, while building long‑term, trusted partnerships with its customers.
