12kV Disconnectors |

Overview
The Yurika Lake Julius Substation Upgrade involved enhancing supply reliability by creating separate enclosures for transformers and upgrading switching capabilities at the Mount Isa Water Board site. As part of the project’s electrical infrastructure improvements, Insulect supplied 12kV Disconnectors, enabling safe and efficient low-voltage switching within the substation network.
Challenge
The substation needed to become more reliable and easier to maintain while continuing to supply power without interruption.
One of the key challenges was improving how different parts of the system could be isolated safely. Without proper switching equipment, maintenance work could be risky and could potentially affect the wider network.
The equipment also needed to perform reliably in a demanding regional environment, where consistency and safety are critical.
Solution
Insulect supplied 12kV disconnectors designed for safe and efficient switching within the substation.
These disconnectors allow operators to isolate parts of the electrical system when needed, making maintenance safer and more controlled. They were installed as part of the upgraded infrastructure, working alongside the new transformer enclosures and improved switching setup.
Benefits
With Insulect’s disconnectors in place, the substation is now safer and easier to operate. Maintenance work can be carried out with better isolation, reducing risk for workers and improving system control.
The upgraded switching capability also helps improve reliability, ensuring the water board has a more stable power supply for its operations.
Results
Today, the Lake Julius Substation operates with improved reliability and safety, supporting the Mount Isa Water Board in delivering essential water services to the region.
Behind the scenes, Insulect’s disconnectors help ensure that the electrical system can be safely managed and maintained whenever needed.
