Overview

The Sebastopol Solar Farm in New South Wales is a 90 MW ground-mounted solar facility with over 300,000 photovoltaic panels, providing renewable energy to power more than 40,000 homes. Developed by Beon Energy Solutions, the project included engineering, procurement, construction, and grid connection services. Insulect supplied the 132kV Disconnectors, ensuring reliable high-voltage switching as part of the substation infrastructure, supporting efficient energy transmission into the Essential Energy network.

Challenge

A project of this scale needs a reliable way to move large amounts of solar energy into the grid. Because solar output changes throughout the day, the electrical system must handle these shifts while keeping power stable.

There also needs to be a safe way to isolate parts of the network for maintenance or in case of faults. The equipment must perform reliably in outdoor conditions and support long-term operation.

Solution

Insulect supplied 132kV disconnectors designed for safe and reliable high-voltage switching.

These disconnectors allow operators to isolate sections of the system when needed, making maintenance safer and easier. They were installed as part of the substation, supporting a stable and controlled connection to the Essential Energy network.

Benefits

With Insulect’s disconnectors in place, the solar farm benefits from a safer and more reliable electrical system.

Operators can carry out maintenance with less risk, thanks to clear isolation points. The system can also better manage changing solar output throughout the day.

Built for durability, the equipment supports long-term performance and reduces the need for frequent maintenance.

Results

Today, the Sebastopol Solar Farm is delivering clean, zero-emissions energy to tens of thousands of homes across New South Wales.

Its high-voltage system operates reliably in the background, ensuring energy flows safely from the site into the grid.

Insulect’s disconnectors help ensure the project runs smoothly, efficiently, and reliably over time.
