Smart Dehydrating Breathers

Maintenance‑Free Automated Regeneration
Universal Compatibility

Protecting Transformer Health Through Intelligent Moisture Management

Moisture is one of the most destructive elements affecting transformer longevity and performance. Even the smallest amounts can accelerate insulation ageing, reduce output and, in extreme cases, lead to catastrophic failure. Our Smart Dehydrating Breathers provide a universal, maintenance‑free solution designed to keep transformers dry, protected and operating reliably.

Application Overview

Our Smart Dehydrating Breathers are designed for both LTC (Load Tap Changer) and Main Tank applications, adapting intelligently to the breathing patterns of the transformer. As a transformer heats and cools, the tank “breathes,” drawing in atmospheric moisture that degrades insulation and increases maintenance requirements. These breathers remove moisture before it enters the oil system and automatically regenerate the desiccant without requiring replacement—reducing site visits and supporting long‑term asset performance.

Configurable Software Interface

User‑friendly software enables fast setup, customised thresholds, saved configurations and password‑controlled access (read or read/write).

Extensive Mounting & Installation Flexibility

Supports multiple mounting configurations and includes internal cabling designed to simplify installation and prevent damage.

What We Solve For

Utilities and asset managers face increasing pressure to reduce maintenance costs, extend transformer life, and minimise unplanned outages. Our Smart Dehydrating Breathers directly address these challenges by eliminating manual desiccant replacement, preventing moisture ingress, enabling remote monitoring and providing insights into asset health. This reduces operational risk, improves reliability and supports condition‑based maintenance strategies.
TECHNICAL

Features & Functionality

Functionality & Options

  • Utilises pressure sensors and pattern‑recognition algorithms to ensure the transformer is expelling moisture during regeneration.

  • Automatically switches to time‑based regeneration when installed on non‑breathing tanks (e.g., LTC applications), removing the need to stock multiple models.

  • Records breather status, moisture trends, temperatures and regeneration activity for long‑term planning, supported by a local port for configuration and data retrieval.

  • Includes RS‑232, RS‑485, Modbus and alarm relays for transmitting moisture levels, system status and fault conditions into monitoring platforms.

  • Offshore Xtreme™ and Polar Xtreme™ models offer enhanced corrosion resistance, reinforced housings and additional heating to prevent condensate formation in cold climates.

ADVANTAGES

Why Choose Our Smart Dehydrating Breathers

Before you explore the top reasons to choose our solution, it’s important to recognise the role these breathers play in your asset strategy: they provide a long‑term defence against moisture‑driven ageing while lowering your maintenance burden and improving asset visibility. Here are three reasons they stand out.

Reduce Maintenance Costs
Automated desiccant regeneration eliminates routine site visits and manual media replacement. With continuous monitoring and integrated diagnostics, you reduce unnecessary labour and streamline maintenance workflows.
Extend Asset Lifecycles
By preventing moisture ingress, the breather dramatically slows insulation ageing—one of the leading contributors to transformer deterioration. Better drying, better data and better control all contribute to longer, more reliable transformer performance.
Gain Visibility & Control
With configurable software, on‑board logging, communications interfaces and local HMI, you gain clear insights into breathing patterns, moisture trends and system status—empowering smarter, condition‑based maintenance decisions.
