145kV Disconnectors |
The West Wyalong Solar Farm is a 107 MWdc renewable energy project in New South Wales, generating 238,000 MWh annually, enough to power 39,600 homes while offsetting 190,400 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Developed by Lightsource bp, the project supplies energy to Snowy Hydro under a 15-year power purchase agreement. As part of the high-voltage infrastructure, Insulect provided 145kV Disconnectors, ensuring reliable grid integration and efficient power distribution.
To deliver energy at this scale, the solar farm needs a strong and reliable connection to the grid. Power output changes throughout the day, so the system must handle these fluctuations while keeping voltage stable.
There also needs to be a safe way to isolate parts of the network for maintenance or in case of faults, without affecting the rest of the operation. The equipment must perform consistently in outdoor conditions and support long-term reliability.
Insulect supplied 145kV disconnectors designed for safe and reliable high-voltage switching.
These disconnectors allow operators to isolate sections of the electrical system when needed, making maintenance safer and easier. They were installed as part of the solar farm’s grid connection to support stable and controlled energy flow.
With Insulect’s disconnectors in place, the solar farm benefits from a safer and more reliable electrical system.
Operators can carry out maintenance with less risk, thanks to clear isolation points. The system can also better manage changing solar output throughout the day.
The equipment is built for durability, helping reduce maintenance needs and supporting long-term performance.
Today, the West Wyalong Solar Farm is delivering clean energy to tens of thousands of homes, while helping reduce carbon emissions across New South Wales.
Its high-voltage system operates reliably in the background, ensuring power flows safely from the site to the grid.
Insulect’s disconnectors play an important role in this, helping ensure the project runs smoothly and delivers consistent performance over time.
