Overview

The Darlington Point Solar Farm is a 333 MWp solar project in New South Wales, generating 685,000 MWh annually—enough to power over 115,000 homes while offsetting 411,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. As one of the largest solar farms connected to the National Electricity Market, it plays a crucial role in Australia's clean energy transition. Insulect supplied the 132kV Disconnectors, ensuring reliable high-voltage switching and seamless grid integration for the project.

Challenge

A project of this scale needs a strong and reliable connection to the grid. Solar output changes throughout the day, so the system must handle these variations while keeping power stable and secure.

There is also a need for safe isolation points so maintenance can be carried out without disrupting the entire site. At the same time, the equipment must perform reliably in outdoor conditions over many years of operation.

Solution

Insulect supplied 132kV disconnectors designed for safe and dependable high-voltage switching.

These disconnectors allow operators to isolate parts of the electrical system when needed, making maintenance safer and more controlled. They were installed as part of the solar farm’s grid connection to support stable and efficient energy flow into the network.

Benefits

With Insulect’s disconnectors in place, the solar farm benefits from a safer and more reliable electrical system.

Operators can carry out maintenance with reduced risk, thanks to clear isolation points. The system is also better able to manage changing solar output throughout the day.

Built for durability, the equipment helps ensure long-term performance and reduces the need for frequent intervention.

Results

Today, the Darlington Point Solar Farm is delivering large-scale clean energy into the National Electricity Market, supporting thousands of homes and businesses across New South Wales.

Its high-voltage system operates reliably in the background, ensuring smooth and safe power transfer from generation to grid.

Insulect’s disconnectors play an important role in this success, helping ensure the project runs safely, efficiently, and reliably for the long term.
